Frequently Asked Questions

1)  What is the total cost per square foot for the completed homes?

Prices of materials, labor, supervision, etc. are constantly changing with time and location.  I am finishing the 2040L and will spend approx. $110.00 per square foot using hardwood floors, white cedar shingles, large overhangs, Pella windows and front door, hot water baseboard gas heating backup system, and was the GC and did some of the work myself.  I would suggest as a first step to show the website to whomever will build the home to get a rough estimate.  As a further step, the preliminary design plans would provide most of the information necessary for a budgetary estimate.

2)  Where is shipping from?

Kits are fabricated in local "wood truss manufacturing plants" near your site.

3)  How much do the kits cost?

A basic minimal kit consisting of 20 prefabricated roof trusses and 5 large prefabricated wall panels, as shown on the home page of this website, would cost approximately $6,000.00.  This price will vary.  More extensive kits can be arranged.

4)  What type of foundation can be used?

Being that these homes use standard construction practices, most foundations, including basement foundations, will work well.

5)  Advantages of your design in comparison with traditional ways of building?

We use conventional materials innovatively.  Our concept is to use standard proven simple "environmentally friendly" building materials in an energy efficient, long term cost-savings way.

6)  What are the heights of the buildings?

Heights vary 24' to 25' from finished 1st Floor to ridge line.

7)  What is the pitch of the roof?

The exterior roof pitch is 9:12.

8)  Are southern overhangs adjusted for different locations?

Overhangs are adjusted for locations, for minimized sun in summer and maximized sun in winter.

9)  Could French doors be substituted for sliding glass doors?

Yes, but I would recommend door closers to dampen effects of strong winds.  French doors usually have less glass per square foot than sliding glass doors, and therefore would let less sun in.

10)  What do you think about using a metal roof instead of shingles?

I've been told that metal roofs come with noise during expansion/contraction, and while raining.  But metal roofs are durable and have advantages in ice damming areas.  Kezar Homes are very flexible when it comes to construction materials, and can accept most roofing/siding systems.

11)  How easy is it to modify the home after it is built?

The homes are easy to modify being that standard, conventional construction techniques are used.

12)  Are there any catalogs?

The website serves as the catalog.

13)  Does the climate matter where these homes are built?

No, as long as they are modified to fit local building codes.

14)  How long do your homes take to build?

Being that standard, conventional construction techniques are used, the time of construction is similar to the time of construction of a "typical" home.

15)  Where can a Kezar Home been seen?

To date, one is being completed in New Jersey, as shown on the website.  Visitors are welcome.
